The article that I chose was a unique one and took a closer look at laparoscopic surgeries of ovarian cysts. More specifically, it looked at the current methods of operating and the indications for operating on a ovarian cyst laparoscopically. It was basically a meta-analysis of a total of 20 case reports of patients that were operated on for an ovarian cyst. It basically found that sometimes our current methods of diagnosing and treating the cysts were not need. For example, having a cyst that had unspecified dimensions should not only get a ultrasound transvaginal but a ultrasound abdominal as well to ensure that when operating the trocar does not rupture the cyst during the surgery. Additionally, this article stated that size alone should not dictate whether or not a patient gets a laparoscopic surgery or not. This decision should be based on a variety of factors mainly one that factors in the surgeon’s skills and experience at handling ovarian cysts laparoscopic.
